When you have no more use for your taxi

Saturday, July 19, 2008

What better way to stop traffic, than ditching your car (taxi)at the roundabout to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. I wonder what the driver was thinking about as he whizzes round the roundabout in a clockwise direction and skidded into it from an anti-clockwise direction. This accident caused a traffic snarl on a nice Sunday afternoon at the "neighbourhood of academia."

It is very unfortunate that this "neighbourhood of academia" does not portray this ambience. It is said that if you throw two stones in a crowd in Bangi, there is every chance that one will hit a person with a Ph.D. That is the "academia" thing. However, Bangi is so unlike Oxford or Cambridge, that exudes the atmosphere of "academia". Here it is more like a transplanted kampong. Academia is far in between.

More about that later.

Durian season in Bangi

It's that time of the year when the king of fruits make it's appearance. And Bandar Baru Bangi is not left out.

Yes, you can find fruit stall being set up by the roadside selling durians and other local fruits like rambutan and langsat. The best time to buy durians is not when they first appear. You have to wait for about a month when the price will definitely tumble down because of the over abundance of the fruits.

Nonetheless, do the fruit sellers pay tax?

What I would like to do on a hot Sunday afternoon. These kids are enjoying themselves at Alamanda, a shopping mall in PutraJaya, close to BBB.
